As for Holland America cabins, they are 25% larger than those of other premium brands. When it comes to choosing suites, it's best to figure out how much space you really need, what amenities are important to you and what you can afford to spend. Suites on most ships are often the first category to sell out, partly because there are fewer of them, and partly because they often offer extremely good value. For this reason, it's important to decide early what kind of suite you'd like. The best room location on any cruise ship can vary from person to person. It can also mean the difference between seasickness and noise that keeps you up all night -- or the sounds of waves lulling you to sleep like a baby or awesome views.
Aft balcony
If you're cruising with kids, I cannot understate enough the benefits of connecting cabins instead of one large cabin. Plus, hump balcony rooms are usually midship, which double up on the benefits mentioned earlier about a midship room. Believe it or not, it's actually easier to answer the question of which cabins are a mistake to book rather than which cabins are truly the best.
Cruise News Recap: Carnival Tampering, Dining Changes, Evacuation
The most obvious room location for any aquaphile is as close to a pool as you can get. On some cruise ships, you can get a cabin on the same deck as a pool, so it's out your door and a quick stroll to paradise. Often, the balconies on rear-facing cabins are bigger than the balconies on side-facing cabins, and they also feel quiet. There are far fewer balcony cabins at the back of a ship than on the sides of a ship, so you don't hear a lot of noise from your neighbors. Cruise cabins also come in all shapes and sizes and with a variety of amenities and benefits.
Best cabin for those who want easy access to fresh air: balconies
You are taking a chance and leaving it up to the cruise line to assign you a cabin in a given category. Be sure to do your research before you book a "guarantee" cabin (or any cabin). You might be delighted in the value you get for your dollar, but you might also be disappointed if other cabins in the same category are in much better locations.
And that comes with some big pros for cruisers looking for outdoor space. Fans of aft balcony cabins love the expansive, uninterrupted ocean views over the ship's wake. You're also likely to score significantly more space in your cruise's aft cabins than standard balcony cabins along the port and starboard sides of the ship. If you're after lots of deck space, aft rooms located at one of the ship's corners may have balconies that wrap around both sides of your room to double the viewing pleasure.

Adding a private balcony means much more living space in your room, and outdoor space to see, smell and take in the views around you. Then you have suites which offer the most space and balcony area, at the highest price. Accessible rooms tend to be larger than standard cabins to accommodate wheelchair or scooter users, and they also feature larger bathrooms. Additionally, some rooms will have emergency-call buttons or specific amenities for hearing or vision-impaired guests.
Higher Deck Cabins
You might also get nicer amenities such as name-brand toiletries, higher-thread-count sheets and linens, stocked minibars or fancy robes to enjoy on board. The most affordable outside cabins have an obstructed view, meaning the windows look out on the lifeboats or other ship structures that block your view of the ocean beyond. Cabin placement can have a major impact on your cruise experience, regardless of the cruise line or ship you've chosen.

Choose: A deck filled with other guest cabins and away from elevators
This is down to the ceaseless rocking one can expect to feel on a ship. As a general rule, assume the rhythmic back-and-forth swaying worsens with each new level, with the rocking motion growing more noticeable as you get higher up. Although Cunard's modern-day ocean liner Queen Mary 2 was launched in 2004 (last refurbished in 2021), her 2,249-square-foot grand duplex apartments are still unique, opulent, and deserve a mention. The living area on the lower level includes a large sitting area, a dining table, a writing desk, and a full bath with a shower.
When picking a room, be sure to consider what is one deck above or below your room. Public venues above or below your room can sometimes lead to unwanted noise bleed. Consulting deck plans for your ship is the best way to figure out what is around your cabin. Rooms that are located at the very front or very aft of the ship, and/or rooms on higher decks have a reputation of there being more noticeable movement. Likely the first consideration when picking the perfect stateroom for you is the price and how much space it offers. There are a number of considerations when it comes to picking the best place to stay on a cruise ship, and a lot of has to do with convenience and seasickness.
You will enjoy amazing views of the ocean's horizon from your upper balcony or walls of windows. Choosing the best cabin on a cruise ship is definitely a matter of personal choice, with cost and location being the primary factors in making a decision. However, an outside cabin with a window, or better yet a balcony, makes the cruise experience much better and more enjoyable. Sitting on the balcony with a good book or just being able to step outside and breathe in the sea air helps differentiate cruising from a resort vacation.
It's important to ask and look at the cabin layouts before booking since the name can be somewhat misleading. A suite will have all the amenities found in the other cabin categories, and you might even have butler service. They are a wonderful treat, especially if you have a lot of sea days or want to spend a lot of time together in your cabin. Some family suites are configurations of connected cabins that can accommodate larger, multigenerational family groups. First of all, there's no such thing as "the worst cabin" - simply because to offer a bad product (even for cheap money) is not the proper way of doing a multibillion-dollar cruise travel vacation business.
So, on a ship with fourteen passenger decks, your best options are below deck seven. The truth is, there is no objective answer to the question, "What is the best cabin position on a cruise ship?" It all depends on what's important to you. Here are some other possible cruise placement criteria to help you decide what the best room on a cruise ship would be for you. There is no right answer to the question of what is the best cabin location on a cruise ship.
